CHOUF: UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme has granted the Michel Batisse Award for Biosphere Reserve Management to the Chouf Cedar Reserve.
The biennial award was given to Nizar Hani, the director of the Chouf Cedar Reserve, at a meeting of the International Coordinating Council of the MAB Programme earlier this month in Dresden, Germany.
“This is a success that serves Lebanon and the objectives of the reserve’s management plan by placing the reserve and the country on the global map of reserves,” Hani said.
He added that the Chouf Cedar Reserve is distinguished because of its partnership with the local community as well as the Environment Ministry.
