Residents concerned over Village Creek pollution

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC): People who live along Village Creek in Birmingham and western Jefferson County are asking for help. They say pollution has been killing family members for generations.
Dozens turned out on Wednesday for a meeting at East Ensley Library. They voiced concerns about pollutants contaminating the areas surrounding Village Creek and the Black Warrior River.Jimmie Smith Blames contamination for the cancer deaths of his mother and daughter.”Every cancer known to man, brain, breast, stomach, liver, heart, whatever, she had it,” said Smith during the meeting.
Government officials from the EPA and the Justice Department saw the problem firsthand. The group toured the Black Warrior River Tuesday and a portion of Village Creek in Ensley.
