ITAHARI; A team of government officials today carried inspected Arihanta Developers Pvt Ltd in Khanar-4, Sunsari, after receiving complaints from locals that the acid-mixed water released from the industry was causing damage to the environment.
According to District Development Committee’s environment officer Pushpa Choudhari, officials of the Environment Sub-committee of the DDC have started investigating complaints from locals.
“The locals have complained that the acid-mixed water has spoiled the fertility of their land, killed cattle and affected public health,” he said.
Meanwhile, the team found dozens of workers at the industry exposed to serious pollution. “But the firm is apathetic towards the working environment,” said Women Development Officer Janaki Rathi.
“We have also initiated action against 10 other industries including Kulayan Battery, Arbinda Paper Mill, Ananta Rice Mill and Ananda Kattha Industry in Susnari for causing environmental problems,” Choudhari informed.
However, some industries have already taken steps to manage their waste as per government standards, said Choudhari.
