OAK RIDGE – An EF0 tornado with winds up to 70 mph touched down Wednesday in Roane County, according to the National Weather Service.
The tornado touched down about 6:40 p.m. at Highway 95 and Bear Creek Road near the west entrance to the Y-12 Nuclear Weapons Complex, according to NWS meteorologist Tim Troutman.
“It was a very short touchdown,” Troutman said Thursday morning.
The path was about 100 yards long and 20 yards wide, he said. A few trees were twisted. Weather Service spotters Josh Marler and Jeremy Buckles shot a video of the touchdown and reported it to the Weather Service, Troutman said.
“We checked with emergency management in Roane County to verify the damage,” Troutman said.
