Erin Brockovich launches Australian environmental guardian intiative

INTERNATIONAL environment crusader and human rights activist Erin Brockovich has launched an initiative to serve the cause of environmental protection in Australia – the Environmental Justice Society (EJS).
“This country is at the beginning of a period of huge growth that will continue for decades to come and it’s all driven by resources in the ground,” Ms Brockovich said at a launch in Brisbane today.
“The EJS will act as a guardian of people’s rights for a safe and healthy environment and is aimed at helping preserve Australia’s pristine beaches, waterways, rainforests and wilderness for generations to come.”
The EJS website, http://www.environmentaljustice.com.au, went live for the first time on Friday and will act as a conduit between the EJS’ expert advisory committee and the public.
Those involved include World Wildlife Fund Australia, the University of Queensland, Doctors for the Environment, The Environmental Defenders’ Office and Shine Lawyers.
